Chef Avi Shashidhara is one of the most exciting voices in modern Indian cuisine in the UK today.
Blending his southern Indian heritage with classical European training, Avi brings a fresh, produce-led approach to Indian cooking that’s redefining the genre.
Born and raised in Bangalore, Avi grew up surrounded by the vibrant flavours of Indian home kitchens and a deep respect for seasonality. After training in hotel management and discovering French technique with the Oberoi Group, Avi moved to the UK, where his career took off in Michelin-starred kitchens including Claude Bosi’s Hibiscus and The River Café.

In 2020, Avi became Head Chef at Pahli Hill Bandra Bhai in London’s Fitzrovia, where his menus celebrated regional Indian dishes made with British seasonal ingredients. His refined yet soulful food captured the attention of diners, critics and TV audiences alike, culminating in a winning starter on BBC’s Great British Menu and regular appearances on Saturday Kitchen.

Today, Avi continues to shape the future of modern Indian cuisine through his creative, confident and ingredient-driven approach. Based in London, he is available for private dining, collaborations, and food media appearances.
